THE FULL STORY
Personally, I waited way too long time to ask myself that question because years ago I had a financial planner come over to my house and talk to me about my retirement goals.
It was a great idea, because I was young and had a lot of money rolling in from my construction business. But years passed before I did anything because I was just so scared and confused by my lack of knowledge and that I couldn’t understand anything the guy said to me other than “you need to save for retirement” and “goodnight”.
EVERYTHING ELSE IN BETWEEN WAS A COMPLETE BLUR!
That experience had always bugged me because I knew I wanted to do something then and I didn’t and so I lost a lot of time from that meeting to finally implementing a plan.
Now, some 25 years later, I make it a practice, in advising my clients, to try and keep the “complex” as simple as possible so they won’t “freeze” like I did and do nothing. That’s why I make sure I only create usable and understandable financial plans that will allow anyone to actually “get” why they are planning their long-term goals, what those goals are and how they can get there from here.
DEMYSTIFYING FINANCIAL PLANNING
Financial Planning isn’t really that hard to understand.
It boils down to a six-step process.
THE STEPS:
- Goal Identification – Gaining clarity on your short and long term goals, and the values and beliefs behind them.
- Data Gathering – Collecting info about your financial life like cash flow, assets, and liabilities.
- Analysis – Determine if you can achieve goals based on current assets, time horizons, expected future income sources, tax situation, and other factors.
- Strategy Development – Identify the actions that you need to take in order to have the greatest chance of accomplishing your goals.
- Plan Implementation – Choose the appropriate products and services that will enable you to achieve your goals.
- Review – Provide you with periodic updates on the progress you’re having with your plans, and incorporate any changes in your situation, resources or goals.
There are also six areas that you can focus on...either one at a time or all at once.
THE SIX AREAS:
- Financial Position – This is a snapshot of your current cash flow and net worth including all assets and liabilities.
- Protection Planning – Protection against an ‘unexpected losses in the areas of death, disability, accident, and illness.
- Investment Planning – Accumulating assets in order to be able to achieve goals.
- Tax Planning – Strategies to minimize taxes and possibly avoid paying unnecessary taxes, including reviewing investments because of their tax treatment.
- Retirement Planning – Accumulating sufficient assets through a variety of retirement planning devices to generate sufficient income so work becomes optional.
- Estate Planning – Passing your assets to your heirs in accordance to your goals. This can be as simple as a will or as complicated as using fancy trusts and so forth.
The experience I spoke about earlier that led to years of inaction was largely because the planner did not have a system to help me understand, so I did nothing!

WHY AM I OFFERING YOU SUCH
A FABULOUS DEAL?
Well, it's not because I am crazy like my peers and my accountant think I am or because I am overly-charitable.
NO...It's because I am a hard-nosed advisor and businessman and I believe that my services will help you achieve your financial goals and that you will want to keep me around forever once you do business with me and get to know me.
So go ahead and schedule your private session, when I can meet with you, and your spouse if you are married.
At that meeting, you and I can review and I will analyze your current savings, insurance and investments as well as your future needs and goals.
What I WILL DO: I will help you compare the results of what you are doing now with other options open to you. I will explain appropriate investments to you and even help you clearly define a Financial Plan that fits your situation. And I will gladly answer any and every question you may have.
What I WILL NOT DO: is pressure you into buying anything. I take an approach that doesn’t push product. You can get that anywhere. What you can’t get easily is an approach that features diagnosis, evaluation, providing information, providing options, answering questions, and, certainly, making appropriate suggestions – but always remembering that you are in the driver’s seat, free to make decisions or not to make any decisions at all. I will not intimidate you. Or confuse you. Or “push” you.
Should you, after that meeting, choose to use my firm in reaching your financial goals, you will always receive friendly, professional service.
I will help you with whatever changes and reassignment of funds you need to do. I will make certain you implement your Plan with zero difficulty and continue to be “on call” and of service to you.

PS #4: Here are a few of the most commonly Asked questions and answers for your convenience:
“WHY IS IT SO HARD TO SAVE?”
That is a very good question. As we try our best to accumulate assets to build wealth, we are “drained” by everyday living expenses and what ever we spend money on. Rarely does any get saved. But maybe the biggest problem is simple procrastination (like what I did!)
People put off taking charge of their investing until they have “extra money” to invest, but that “until” just never seems to come! Waiting until you have a lot of extra money lying around before getting smart about money is backwards; you want to get smart about money now!
“CAN I MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME?”
Maybe. This is a concern of many people in their 40’s and 50’s who have not been able to save and invest enough for a secure retirement, security for their spouses, and other purposes.
The first step is a complete, careful review of your current scenario to determine your risk tolerance and whether or not you are getting the best return suitable for you. – I will do that with you, with no pressure to buy anything from me. If “lost time” is a concern of yours, the only thing I believe we can agree on for sure at this point is, the longer you wait to accurately assess your situation and look at all your options, the tougher the task will be in meeting your financial objectives.
“I'M SATISFIED WITH MY CURRENT FINANCIAL ADVISOR... WHY SHOULD I TAKE THE TIME TO MEET WITH YOU?”
Actually, there are a number of reasons:
1. BUSINESSOWNERS: I will help show you how to icrease your business through better marketing... (check out www.YourBusinessMarketingToolbox.com.) and I'll show you strategies to help you save on your company's benefit plans.
2. UNBEATABLE SERVICE TO YOU: is my first priority... you must always be happy with my services.
3. FREE INITIAL ONE-HOUR CONSULTATION: Ask me about any part of your financial life that you want and we can focus on it or any topic you wish for the hour.
4. FREE Monthly “Snail mail” NEWSLETTER with FUN & USEFUL info. I won’t bore you to tears ONLY about financial stuff…it can be boring unless we are talking about your stuff one-on-one!
5. FREE Weekly eMAIL on fun info to make your week a little more fun. No financial mumbo-jumbo! It will be worth reading...It isn't junk-email!
6. FREE ONLINE SEMINARS focusing on your retirement. You will always get an email notice weeks in advance and a notice in the monthly newsletter too with all the details on how to participate in it.
7. EXPERIENCE: During a “long way around the block” (19+ years) I have had a lot of blank stares when talking to people about their financial issues, so I have used those experiences to make complex “financial gobbledygook” as simple as possible and understanding your finances and planning for your retirement easier and more enjoyable…I was once a bricklayer, so I had to keep this stuff simple for myself to learn it!
8. PROMPT SERVICE: All calls returned within 24 hours. You can also expect friendly, compassionate and professional service.
9. REACHABLE: I am reachable. When you need help, I will be there. As often as needed. And that includes the summer months (when I like hanging at the beach...a lot!) or during the holidays, I’ll be here to help you.
